LINC UP mission: We believe that neighborhoods matter and that where you start contributes to where you go. We work to connect residents to resources by connecting who you know, what you know, where you live and what you make.

Basic Function

Directors will work with the organization’s Executive Director, and other members of the Board to provide leadership for LINC UP. Directors are expected to understand, support, and fulfill the responsibilities set forth below and in the description of the Role of the Board of Directors and the expectations in the organization's Governance Principles.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Actively participate in regularly scheduled Board meetings. Read materials distributed prior to the meetings and share experience and expertise during Board discussions. Support decisions that are arrived at by the Board. Ensure that confidential information shared at the meetings is held in confidence. 

  2. Attend scheduled meetings and participate actively, providing advice and feedback on an on-going basis.

  3. Listen to the community served by LINC UP and provide candid and constructive feedback, advice, and comments on the services to LINC UP’s leadership team. Provide candid and constructive feedback, advice, and comments on other aspects of LINC UP that is consistent with the Role of the Board.

  4. LINC UP relies on its directors to be its most active and vocal supporters, telling the LINC UP story in their communities and organizations. This role is to support the mission and strategic plan of the organization. 

Qualifications

  1. Have an active interest in community engagement and advocacy, a willingness to assist in setting and achieving the organization's goals, and the ability to devote the time necessary to attend and participate in Board meetings.

  2. Have a history of professional achievement and success within an organization, to enable the Director to provide context and perspective to LINC UP’s Board and willing to apply one's experience to the Board's decision-making process.

  3. Have a professional reputation that enhances LINC UP’s reputation and strengthens the role of the Board in supporting the vision, purpose, and values of the organization.

  4. Have sufficient knowledge of a nonprofit organization in a rapidly changing environment to provide substantive advice.

  5. Have a clear understanding of governance and the importance of a shared understanding with management about accountabilities and decision-making processes.

  6. Works with the Board Chair, the Executive Director, and other members of the Board to provide leadership for LINC UP.
